Gibbs Font Family is a hard, upscale sans, named after the prolific architect of the sea, Mr. William Francis Gibbs and inspired after his most distinguished creations the record breaking mid-century luxury SS United States. With a number of clues used to the individual cast aluminum signs on board, the effect is really transatlantic – between industrial American vernacular lettering and the English humanist types of Gill or Johnston. Stylish and quite comfortable to read, and containing a wide range of OpenType features, Gibbs gives you the ability to work at quality type without difficulty at both text and display sizes.

The United States was the most revolutionary ship in the world at the time of its construction in 1952. She is currently idle and at risk of scrape after a perfect 17 year career. Her present owner, the non-profit SS United States Conservancy hopes to bring the ship back to life as a colorful waterfront project and a museum that would become an entertaining aspect of the waterfront that people will enjoy decades to come.
