Paragon Font is a modern vintage, new retro-style slab serif typeface, a revival of the typeface designed by Chauncey H. Griffith in 1935 for Linotype. A character set designed to be printed at small size in newspapers so that even if poorly printed, it is still legible.
For the Paragon type, which was intended specifically for the action of letter-press printing with newspapers, lee was prescribed to permit for the over-inking of the newspapers during the printing process, and hence it was supposed to have lighter sort and nature characteristics as compared to either of separated founts which were heavier or fatter in weight of line.
In fact the a.c.r version is ultimately derived from the effort of Phil Baines in his You Can Read Me type. It aims to set a boundary which the character unreadable to machine (OCR) but readable to human on a very short text.
