Oberland is one such typeface, created out of the flaws, but glorifying the unrefined nature of each individual letter. Every glyph is purposefully rough, having its rhythm, its imperfections and outliers that need to be noticed and create interest. The strokes are confident and unrefined and are created not to replicate the perfection but to represent freedom and naturalness. The letters themselves are frail and incomplete, but when they are joined together as words and sentences, they resonate with each other in a way that is potent, unifying and memorable.
Oberland shows that perfection is not in perfection, but in the combination of the imperfection, in harmonizing the rough strokes into harmony, in the subjecting of individuality into harmony.
